How To Become A Runner (and stay a runner)

So we all know that many people give up on running pretty early. Typically that is from running injuries and other discomfort that comes from being a new runner or from overdoing it right away.

Have you wondered how some people become lifelong runners who actually seem to enjoy running? Well, here are some ways in which you can become one of those runners who simply enjoy running.

How to get started by setting goals

Goal 1: running for 30 mins

Don’t wait for the right time. Just start.

Start with walking. Once walking gets boring, start splitting between walking and running. Here your goal will be to run for 30 mins without being overly exhausted from the effort.

Goal 2: running for an hour

This my take some time, and allow it that time. Overtraining causes injuries, so you don’t want to increase mileage or pace drastically right away.

Goal 3: sign up for a race

Short term goals help, because they add a definitive structure and timeline to your training. So just go ahead and sign up for a 10k run, and plan your nutrition and training accordingly.

Congratulations. You will have come far in your running journey by now.

How to keep going

Join a running group. This way you’re not only meeting people who also run, and who will keep you company and push you to be a better runner, but you will also make new friends. Your new runner friends will also inspire and support you. You will begin enjoying their company, and your runs. A running group will help with consistency, also.
