The Ultimate Gym Lingo Cheat Sheet - Part 1

Gym can be an intimidating place if you are new there. To top it off you hear someone say things like, “Do the superset to failure”, and you find yourself completely lost.


But don’t worry. We are here to make life easier. Let’s look at a few Gym terms you hear often but have no clue about -


1. Superset :





To put it in simple words, performing two exercises back to back with very little to no rest in between is called a Superset. For example, a superset could be a set of 10 biceps curls followed by a set of 10 triceps extensions.


2. HIIT :





HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is one type of exercise we are sure you have heart a lot about. Typically, HIIT workouts comprise of short bursts of intense exercise with some rest periods.


3. PB : PB is an abbreviation for Personal Best. As the name suggest, PB is the best performance of an individual on a specific exercise.


4. Reps : Reps is simply Repetitions. It is the number of times you will perform a given exercise within a set.


5. To Failure :





Performing an exercise to failure means you perform an exercise until you can no longer go on, your body physically cannot perform another rep.
