The Ultimate Gym Lingo Cheat Sheet - Part 2

We’re back with a Part 2.

Let’s get straight into it, shall we?

A few more Gym terms you hear often but have no clue about -

1. EMOM : Every Minute On The Minute. In EMOM workouts, you have to a specific number of reps of a certain exercise within a minute. The remaining time time is your recovery time.

2. Tabata : Tabata is a type of workout wherein for 20 seconds you push your limits and perform an exercise. This is followed by 10 seconds of rest and then back to 20 seconds of workout. You do eight such cycles to complete one 4 minute Tabata round. Typically you will perform 4 such rounds to complete a brutal 20 minute Tabata workout.

3. Spot : Spotting in weigh training is when you support a person when he/she is performing a particular exercise. The idea behind spotting is not to lift the weight for the lifter, but to support them during the lift to allow perfect form and stay safe.

4. Active Recovery : Active recovery means instead of just lounging all day on the couch watching Netflix, you do some light intensity activities like go for a shot walk or do a short and easy relaxing yoga flow.

5. DOMS : DOMS stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. When you feel soreness a day or two after an intense workout, that is because of DOMS. So what causes DOMS? When you workout , you are causing microscopic tears in your muscle fibres. The fibres then repairs and rebuilds and that’s how you get gain muscle and get stronger. But, while rebuilding these stairs, the tissues around the tares flare up and this causes the soreness and pain.

We hope Part 2 helped clearing up some more confusion that you had. Share this with someone who will find this helpful.
