What is Mobility Training And Why It Is Important

When we speak about working out, we only consider workouts done in the gym or other aerobic activities like running or playing a sport. But did you know that there are other components in training that you should be including in your training schedule?

Mobility Training is one such component that comes with numerous benefits, but sadly is often ignored.

So what is Mobility Training? Is it yoga? Is it just stretches?

Mobility training is a combination of mobility exercises that will help in increasing the range of motion or movements that your body can perform. In addition to this, mobility training also helps in stabilisation of muscles surrounding your joints.

Why should you start working on your mobility?

With a limited range of motion, your assistance muscles start to compensate while working out. These assistance muscles are generally smaller and weaker. Because of repeatedly using these assistance muscles you are inviting a lot of pain and a possible injury. This can be avoided by adding mobility training. With time you will notice how you are able to squat heavier and deeper with great form, or get better at handstands with better wrist mobility.

There is a misconception that you need to include mobility training only if you do strength training. That isn’t true. The kind of life that we all live today, we spend hours on our laptops, mobile phones, or in front of the TV, all in a bad posture. Over time, you will notice that our body starts feeling ‘tight‘ and we find ourself struggling to perform daily tasks without feeling any pain. With mobility exercises you will notice your posture get better, which in turn means lesser stress on the spine and, well, you are only as young as your spine!

Mobility training will help in improving performance in your sports. It also helps in keeping problems like knee pain and back pain at bay.

In addition to all these benefits, mobility exercises, like other forms of physical exercises have a calming effect on your mind.

It’s never too late to start mobility training. Start adding some mobility exercises to your routine today!
